rock camp

The Southern Girls Rock and Roll camp in Murfreesboro is a really cool idea realized in great fashion. Young girls come from all over to bond over instruments, form bands and rock it out at a grand finale. This year I shot a bunch of pics for the rock camp using rock camp gear. I shot one roll of color film of a friends' daughter's band.. The Midnight Creature Feature. //////////////////////////////// I teach 5th grade so I have a special appreciation for the ten to twelve age group. Camp Country Lad is a camp the I attended and loved as a boy. As an adult I see it as even more magical. I have visited the camp twice in the past two years. The camp has not changed one bit since I was there in the 70's. Its good to know that some things stay the same. Malcolm and Patsy Williams run the camp and celebrated it's 40th birthday this year. The camp is located on the Cumberland Plateau in Tennessee. Some of the natural beauty within walking distance of the camp rivals some of the most pristine spots in the Smokeys. I shot a roll of film using a canon water camera. I like this shot of a boy in a swimming race. Check out the Camp Country Lad folder in the sidebar for more pics. bike ride downtown

I recently took a bike ride around downtown Nashville with the hopes of getting some exercise and maybe getting some interesting shots. I took off with two rolls of film, a liter of water and a I-pod loaded with ambient music. The idea was to go fast and furious. I wanted to keep my heart rate up while continuing to look for and take pictures. The idea required me to stay on the bike while shooting. This photo is a self portrait reflected in a sculpture and the only "straight" photo of the day. The rest were in-camera double exposures. 2. 2. These two shots are an example of the same scene exposed twice with a change in focus. Its challenging when not carrying a tripod. 2. I'm planning a big blog entry on in camera double exposure. I have enjoyed exploring this technique for many, many years. When done in camera with film it becomes a unique chance to manipulate serendipity. I find that close to magic.
