Sean fires the kiln

My buddy Sean works in clay and other mediums. Recently he did a wood firing of pottery. I went out on a cold night as he and his friend Dave got the kiln going. ><<<><<<<><><><><><<><><><>><><><><><<><><><><>><><><><><><><>><><><><><< <><><<><><><<><><>><><><><<><><><><><><><><><><><><<><><><><<><><><><<><< The kiln gets super hot. But didn't generate enough heat to keep old Dave warm. He had to build a fire. It was a cold long night for the boys. The kiln has to be fed at very short intervals to maintain proper temperature. <><<><><><><<><><><><<><><><><<><><><><><><><<><><.,><>><><><><><><><><><>< I love this last image. It's a long exposure and shows the kiln building. It was about 9 in the evening and the mixture of natural horizon city lights and a mercury vapor security light that was nearby.Click on it to enlarge the picture and you can see the stars peeking through a surreal night sky.

empty silos

Here are some more images from a series I'm working on called 'dispatches from the road" On this day I traveled in a loop around my house. I found 2 abandoned farms within ten minutes of my house. These images are of empty silos on each farm. Using a wide angle lens in these circular buildings creates a perspective that is interesting to me. I seem to be drawn to things that could be viewed abstractly as celestial or even science fiction type imagery.
