Every once and awhile I try to create without using photography as my main medium.
Its always fun to exercise. The rose project came about after I found some antique wallpaper
while exploring an abandoned house. I shot some pictures of the wallpaper to add to
my texture and pattern collection. For some odd reason I decided to take some home
to photograph in better light. After photographing it I decided to mess around with it.
I sprayed various liquids on it and began carving into it. I found another layer of wallpaper
underneath. I got into the process of removing layers and exposing various textures.
I went back the day before the house was leveled and pulled more paper down.
I was able to get 30 pieces out of what I salvaged. The roses look nice when placed in a floating frame
and the wall becomes the matte. Various pieces became a small show that is currently
hanging at the Alive Hospice Gallery in Nashville.
Great Job Rick!! I just love THEM Roses!!!
